Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic were once integral pillars of the Manchester United defence. The veteran trio have amassed 16 Premier League titles and over 1000 Red Devils appearances between them.

But the times they are a-changin’ quickly at Old Trafford, as United’s poor form this season has forced David Moyes to look towards the future, culling much of his ageing cast in the process. The transition has stated with United skipper Vidic revealing last week that he will be leaving Carrington on a Bosman move at the end of the season, and Ferdinand and Evra are expected to follow suit, with both of their contracts also set to expire in the summer.

The next step will be able to find adequate replacements for this much-decorated cast however, so here’s SIX signings to help Moyes kick-start a new defensive era with the Premier League champs.
