Rio Ferdinand has been a fantastic servant to his club over the last decade or so, but unfortunately the England man has well and truly entered his twilight years.
He’s still physical, good in the air and reads the game well, but the covering centre-back has lost a rather critical yard of pace that made him the exceptional defender he once was.
The 34-year-old could still probably do a job at Manchester United next season, but with an impressive roster of young talent, especially in defence, it might be time to move Ferdinand on to make sure he doesn’t stall the next generation’s progress at Old Trafford.
Some have rumoured a return to first club West Ham, which would be a good fit for the ageing veteran.
