Manchester United Chief Executive Ed Woodward says the club are prepared to spend big in January, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The Premier League champions have been criticised for only making one marquee signing, bringing in Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini from Everton.

But Woodward is prepared to spend some of the clubs increase in revenue, and even suggested the club could go back for former star Cristiano Ronaldo:

“As the revenue is growing so much faster than anything else it does allow us to be able to spend a lot more on players. If you look at our revenue two years ago it was £320-odd million, the year just finished was £360m and this year we are saying £420-430m.” said the United Chief Executive.

“That revenue, certainly the growth, is allowing us to invest. If ever there are top players available, we have the ability to invest.”

When asked about the 2008 FIFA World Player of the Year, Woodward added: “Who knows? I do think that we as a club should be aspiring and having the best players. We all miss him as a player. He was just phenomenal. They are the sort of things you tell your grandchildren about, watching him… That guy was a genius, a top player.”

United have had a difficult start under new manager David Moyes, but look set to offer the Scottish manager new players in the January transfer window.

Who would you like United to sign? Is it time to bring Ronaldo back?
