Wayne Rooney expresses Concern Over Old Trafford pitch
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is worried that the current Old Trafford surface could derail their title winning season.
United still have an incredible home record this season but the surface at Old Trafford has been criticised in recent weeks and hasn’t allowed the home side to play their usual game.
Southampton came close to stealing a point from Old Trafford on Wednesday night and Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping that an away game against Fulham today will be a nice rest-bite for both the players and the grass.
With vital home games against Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea and Everton still to come this season, United will need their pitch to be like a carpet if they are going to dominate their opponents.
Rooney hasn’t had too much trouble finding the net at Old Trafford this season but the England striker is clearly worried about how the pitch could have and possibly will affect them for the remainder of the season.
“Of course [it’s a worry],” Rooney told talkSPORT.
“You always want a nice surface to play football on and in recent games the pitch hasn’t been good enough.
“It could have cost us, thankfully it hasn’t, but now the groundsman can get it right in the next couple of weeks.
“It will be difficult because of the weather but hopefully it will be good to have that little break and then hopefully come back to a nice pitch.”
