Zaha ‘delighted’ by Manchester United move
Wilfried Zaha says that he is “delighted” to be signing for Manchester United from Championship outfit Crystal Palace.
The Red Devils have announced that a £15m deal has been confirmed and that the England international is set to undergo a medical ahead of penning a contract.
He will stay with the Eagles for the rest of the season on loan as part of the deal, with United keen for him to play regular first-team football and Palace looking to maintain their promotion push.
The 20-year-old revealed his happiness at agreeing a move to the Premier League, but reiterated his commitment to helping his current club for the rest of the season.
“I am delighted to be joining Manchester United and ending the recent speculation,” he told The Mirror.
“I would like to thank the owners at Palace for making the move possible, however my focus for the next five months will be solely at Crystal Palace.
“I have been at Palace for more than 10 years, I will always love the club and I want to help get them get back to the Premier League, particularly for the fans who have always been so good to me.”
The deal to take Zaha from London to Manchester will cost an initial £10m, with the remainder of the fee related to performance-based add-ons and clauses.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson cited the player’s potential as a major influence in his willingness to spend big and believes that he will develop at Old Trafford.
“We like to sign young players with potential. We always feel we can develop players well here,” Ferguson added.
“That’s been proved to be the case many times. We hope the boy will enjoy it here when he eventually comes.”
