Alan Pardew slams sloppy performance
The Magpies slipped to a 2-1 loss at Craven Cottage, ending to their recent run of good results.
Goals from Steve Sidwell and Hugo Rodallega, either side of a Hatem Ben Arfa effort, handed the home side all three points and Pardew was frustrated by the performance of his team:
“It’s a really soft second goal – a soft free-kick, soft defending on the free-kick and you can’t do that at this level because we had the game by the scruff of the neck at this point,” he told SkySports.
“We played some of our best attacking football of the season, but we’ve still come away with nothing.
“Performances don’t get you points.
“In the second half we were terrific other than those two or three moments. We’ve got no-one to blame but ourselves.”
“I think we’ve conceded poor goals at crucial times and away from home it’s costly.”
Newcastle host Manchester City in their next game and Pardew feels that a positive result is achievable:
“I think at home we are a threat to anybody.”
Sidwell opened the scoring with a deflected strike, before Ben Arfa’s 54th minute effort levelled the scores.
Rodallega settled the game ten minutes later, nodding in from Damien Duff’s free-kick.
