Arsenal Centre Back on Newcastle’s Radar
The 6 ft 4 in centre half has been deemed surplus to requirements at the Emirates and it seems that Newcastle are ready to swoop for the 25 year old.
Alan Pardew did mention last week that the club had made a list of seven potential signings in the defensive area and Johan Djourou is thought to be at the very top of this wish list.
The Gunners are believed to only be commanding a small fee for the player capped 33 times for Switzerland.
It is reported that the defender has also gained admiring glances from abroad including Italian side Napoli. So the North east outfit will need to act fast in order to secure Djourou’s signature.
The recruitment policy at Newcastle appears to be focussed upon recruiting players with versatility and the Swiss ace ticks that box too, as he can play right back as well as centre back.
He joined Arsenal back in 2004 making 156 appearances, so this experience, particularly in the premier league, will appeal to any potential suitors.
Despite signing Curtis Good for a figure in the region of £600k in July 2012, the Australian is thought to be one for the future, and not ready to provide defensive cover just yet.
Whilst the Toon wait in anticipation for reinforcements from the January transfer window, they will be boosted by the returns of Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini. Particular the latter with their club captain putting in a man of the match performance against Sunderland on Sunday.
