Newcastle‘s Fabricio Coloccini came very close to quitting the club in the January transfer window to return home to Argentina.

The defender has had a few family issues regarding his wife and two children. The Argentine’s family have found it hard to settle in the UK over the last few years and recently his wife became ill and returned to Argentina, leaving Fabricio with the children. This affected his form around the Christmas period which prompted him to chat to Alan Pardew.

Despite not formally asking for a transfer Coloccini spoke to Pardew about the situation and the Toon boss convinced him to stay until the end of the season and then they will talk further. It is rumoured that Colccini could have faced legal action from Newcastle had he left the club.

Reporting for International duty this week, Coloccini Spoke to The Mirror

“It wasn’t about the money. There were personal reasons but the club and manager have been great.

“I’ve been away from home for 13 years and I miss it. Now is about Newcastle United staying up… and we will.

“I love Newcastle United as a whole. I captain a huge club and I’m fully focused on helping to stay up.”
