To say Newcastle have been a source great frustration for their supporters would be an understatement. On the transfer front alone, the club move with the kind of inconsistency that can only keep a club entrenched in mid-table mediocrity.

But the club are in need of something uplifting this summer, especially after selling fan-favourite Yohan Cabaye during the January window. The recent addition of former Ajax captain Siem de Jong is a very good step in the right direction.

Loic Remy was Newcastle’s only summer signing last year, arriving on loan. And while the Frenchman did extremely well, fans will be demanding much more in the way of ambition from the club’s hierarchy.

Here’s a look at five players who could help to complete Alan Pardew’s squad for next season.
