Newcastle have done a good job of bouncing back from an opening weekend defeat to Manchester City, losing 4-0 and looking all at sea for this season. But Alan Pardew has made tweaks to the system and has benefited from the arrival of Loic Remy. The Frenchman clearly has an understanding with compatriot Hatem Ben Arfa, while Yohan Cabaye has looked to put the summer window behind him.

But that doesn’t mean Newcastle should rest on what they have, and they’re notorious for doing so. The starting XI looks good, especially going forward, but a stronger squad will be needed to ride through the injury and fixture problems – something which derailed the club last term.
