Cheick Tiote has distanced himself from rumours that he could leave St James’ Park at the end of this season, describing being at Newcastle as like being part of a “family”.

The Ivorian midfielder has been linked with Manchester United in recent times after establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s top enforcers since joining the Magpies in 2010 from FC Twente.

There has been talk that the no-nonsense 27-year-old may be ready for a fresh challenge, but after four years on Tyneside he told The Metro that he is still loving life at the club:

“Newcastle is like a family, I’ve been here four years and love playing for the club, it’s the best thing I have ever done in my career and I hope I continue to give my best for the club.

“It’s the sort of place you like to stay. ‘It’s much different to any other club, we know the fans are 200 per cent behind us but sometimes we have bad games.

“When I stop playing, I will be able to tell my children I played at St James’ Park in front of 50,000 in that great atmosphere.”

This news will come as welcome relief to followers of Newcastle, with the club’s recent sale of Yohan Cabaye having led to talk of disillusionment among some of the team’s top stars.

Meanwhile, the ‘Toon’ are believed to be exploring the possibility of making Loic Remy’s loan move from QPR a permanent one this summer.
