Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has said that his side will be active in this summer’s transfer window.

The Magpies have been slated for their recent business, with a lack of major arrivals over the course of the last year and significant departures angering large sections of their supporters.

Signings were expected in January, but despite influential midfielder Yohan Cabaye leaving, only Luuk de Jong came in – on loan – from Borussia Monchengladbach.

Having raised almost £20m through sales, there have been calls in the North East outfit to invest in the first-team squad and push on to challenge for European qualification.

Pardew says that there will be arrivals in six months’ time, and that he is keen to bring in the sort of players that can significantly strengthen his side:

“We are going to need at least two or three signings who come straight into that team or have a very, very good chance of starting,” he told Sky Sports.

“I think we have got a summer where we are going to have to be a lot more active than we have been for a while because we are looking light in certain areas.”

Pardew went on to state that a new forward is on the agenda, with speculation having suggested that making Loic Remy’s loan stay a permanent one is a priority:

“The strikers are an area where that we are going to have to address, for sure,

“We are going to have to find a replacement for Cabaye, so that’s a big job in itself, let alone perhaps a couple of other positions that we might need.”
