Newcastle manager Alan Pardew says that he has no qualms with the seven game ban and £60,000 dished out by the FA for his altercation with Hull’s David Meyler.

The incident occurred on the touchline during the Magpies’ clash with the Tigers – game which the North East club won 4-1.

Meyler and Pardew became engaged in a spat as the Hull man attempted to get the ball for a throw in, at which time the manager appeared to headbutt the player.

Contact was minimal, but due to the threatening behaviour the ex-West Ham and Southampton boss was sent to the stands.

A suspension from the FA was expected, and they settled on a seven-game ban and fine for the Newcastle chief yesterday.

Pardew himself says that he accepts the punishment and is hopeful that he can just focus on his team for the coming weeks:

“As I have made clear, I deeply regret the incident and again wholeheartedly apologise to all parties for my conduct, which I understand was not acceptable.” He is quoted by Sky Sports.

“I will accept the punishment handed down by the FA today.

“My focus now turns to preparing the team for this weekend’s game against Fulham and finishing the season as strongly as possible.”

The first three games of Pardew’s ban prevent him from entering the stadium, while remaining four are touchline-based.
