Newcastle are readying a move for Ajax’s Ricardo van Rhijn as Mathieu Debuchy edges towards the St James’ Park exit door, according to reports from The Chronicle.

The France international looks set to join Arsenal when he returns from the World Cup, with the two clubs understood to have agreed a fee.

Debuchy has been a key man on Tyneside since his 2013 arrival from Lille, and Alan Pardew is desperate to get in a top class replacement for his man.

Van Rhijn is thought to be the player on his radar, with the 23-year-old having been impressive for Ajax in recent seasons.

A graduate of the Amsterdam giants’ famed academy, the rampaging right-back is rumoured to be available for a reasonable fee, and has attracted attention from Chelsea in the past.

Feyenoord’s Daryl Janmaat is also a target, but Newcastle would have to see off interest from Manchester United for the Oranje star.

The Magpies have already raided Holland’s top division once in the last week to snap up Siem de Jong – the brother of former loanee, Luuk – from Ajax.
