Newcastle hit with injury blow
Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has confirmed that midfield maestro Hatem Ben Arfa will be side-lined for the remainder of the season with a hamstring injury.
Ben Arfa had only just returned from a 12 week lay-off due to a persistent hamstring problem that flared up again last week.
The French winger will now undergo surgery to hopefully repair the problem once and for all but that will result in him missing the rest of this season.
The 26 year old has only made 39 league appearances for the Toon since he joined the club permanently in January 2011 as persistent injuries have dogged his time on Tyneside.
There is no doubting Ben Arfa’s talent but his fitness worries continue to hold him and Newcastle back but as the Geordies are seemingly safe from relegation, the timing of the operation is perfect.
Pardew was left gutted by the news in a week of positives for the club.
“Looking at him, I think he’s going to need an operation on his hamstring, and it will probably leave him missing for the rest of the year, I think,” Pardew told The Sun.
“We have had to absorb that in all the good news that we have had.”
