Newcastle are hopeful that a deal for Luuk de Jong can be settled by the time they face Norwich on Tuesday, according to reports from Sky Sports.

The Magpies have been tracking the Borussia Monchengladbach over the course of the past few months, with a loan switch on the agenda.

The Dutch forward himself is keen on the move after falling out of favour at the Bundesliga club, which has opened the door for a quick deal by early next week.

Newcastle are hopeful that they can snap up de Jong in time to include him in their squad for next week’s clash with Norwich, but a debut in the Tyne-Wear derby may be a more realistic option.

Alan Pardew I desperate to supply Loic Remy – also on loan at St James’ Park – with adequate support, with the Frenchman having been relied upon heavily during the opening half of the campaign.

De Jong is seen as a good partner for the QPR-owned man, and a player capable of boosting the North East outfit’s push for European qualification.

The hit-man’s arrival could ease the passage for Papiss Cisse to leave Newcastle, with the out-of-form Senegalese ace attracting interest from Besiktas.
