Newcastle have made Manchester United target Daryl Janmaat their number one priority as the plot for life without Mathieu Debuchy, according to reports from The Sun.

The Magpies are set to lose their right-back in the coming days, with Arsenal closing in on a swoop for the Frenchman – which may include a loan deal for Costa Rican World Cup hero Joel Campbell.

Alan Pardew is ready to reinvest the £8m-£11m the sale of Debuchy is set to bring in, and has made £7m-rated Janmaat his top target.

His international boss Louis van Gaal is thought to be keen to take the 24-year-old to Old Trafford with him when the tournament ends, but Pardew is confident that he can snap up the defender.
