Newcastle’s attempts to sign former Arsenal forward Jeremie Aliadiere have been rebuffed buy Lorient.

Magpies manager Alan Pardew is desperately hunting for a striker, with Demba Ba having left the club to join Chelsea and Loic Remy likely to reject a switch to St James’ Park to sign for QPR.

This has forced the ex-Southampton coach to turn his attention to other targets, with Aliadiere appearing to match his list of requirements.

The 29-year-old has hit seven goals in 18 Ligue 1 appearances this term, helping his side up to seventh in the table.

He also has experience of the Premier League, having represented Arsenal, West Ham, Wolves and Middlesbrough before moving back to his homeland in 2011.

Some had speculated that an attractive proposal would tempt Lorient to sell during January, but their manager Christian Gourcuff claims that there is no way the player will be allowed to leave.

“I know his wife misses England but Jeremie will be here on February 1,” he told L’Equipe (via talkSPORT.)

Aliadiere moved to Arsenal as a youth player in 1998 and went on to force himself into Arsene Wenger’s first-team squad.

However, he was loaned to Celtic, West Ham and Wolves before joining Middlesbrough in 2007 for a fee of £2m.

He enjoyed a relatively successful spell at the Riverside, making almost 100 first-team appearances for Boro, before moving to Lorient on a free transfer.

Usual rubbish from this site. He’s 29 so how can he ‘match his (Pardew’s) list of requirements’ when club policy is not to buy players over 26 (yes I know Debuchy is 27, but he wasn’t when we tried to get him in the summer!)

We need a rock solid reliable goal scorer & creative assist maker. That means splashing the cash – which Ashley will do for the right player – means an experienced (not necessarily older) player and a person without baggage who can fit in with a team and graft out results. Aliadiere doesn’t fit any of those criteria. He’s been around a long time without ever really achieving anything substantial. Bit of a lazy article that takes a vague comment and tries to turn it into a story, but this time the journalist got the actual player wrong – succumbed to the Lorient manager’s smoke and mirrors – go back and get the correct player NUFC are interested in and you might get a story worth reading! (Though I don’t think anything will come of that either.)

Know Pardew has a policy but probably changed this a little now we only have Cisse and Ameobi. needs a goalscorer with prem experience seems to fit that mould slightly
