Newcastle will turn to sacked Manchester United manager David Moyes if they axe Alan Pardew this summer, according to reports from The Express.

The Scot saw his spell at Old Trafford brought to an abrupt halt a couple of weeks ago after a disastrous 10 months.

However his reputation – carved out at Everton – appears to have remained intact, with Newcastle already considering offering him a Premier League lifeline.

The Magpies are rumoured to be thinking about relieving Pardew of his duties when the season ends following a woeful run of form since the turn of the year.

A number of fans have lost faith in their boss, who was embroiled in controversy when he head-butted Hull’s David Meyler not long ago.

Should controversial owner Mike Ashley pull the plug on Pardew’s reign, Moyes is he preferred option to take over.

His ability to work on a tight budget is particularly attractive to the St James’ Park chief, who is known to prefer cost-effective signings.

Moyes is also thought to be considering a move to German football, with speculation suggesting that he has been in contact with unnamed clubs.
