Newcastle are poised to finally secure the signature of Bafetimbi Gomis in the coming days, according to reports from The Mirror.

The France international has been on the Magpies’ radar for some time, with the club understood to have come close to signing him from Lyon both last summer and in January.

However a despute over wages scuppered the move, but now the North East side have relented and are willing to meet the powerful forward’s demands.

Reports indicate that Newcastle are set to hand him £70,000-per-week to beat interest from QPR, which is likely to be enough to snap up the soon to be free agent.

St James’ Park chief Mike Ashley is said to be open to sanctioning such an offer due to the lack of fee needed to lure him away from Lyon.

Gomis’ potential arrival will go some way to easing concerns about Newcastle’s striking options, with loanees Loic Remy and Luuk de Jong having left the club and long-term squad member Shola Ameobi having seen his contract run down.

The 28-year-old has enjoyed a good career in his homeland and won 12 caps with Les Bleus.

Even if Gomis comes on a free and i would rather see British players with English league experience like, Jordan Rhodes, Danny Ings, Ross McCormack and Tom Ince come in. And will Ayoze be another Xsisco ??
