Premier League next season, ahead of European success.

With the Magpies heading to Russia to face Anzhi Makhachkala in the last 16 of the Europa League, the Argentinian winger insists the team must not be distracted from their responsibility to retain their Premier League status.

“We have four games in the next two weeks that are going to be really, really tough.”

“The Europa League is nice but the Premier League is our priority”, the former Mallorca player stated.

Newcastle are currently six points clear of the relegation places, but Gutierrez warns continental competitions can undermine league performances to the point of make great squads struggle.

“I’ve been in Spain and England and seen big teams playing in the Champions League but who are in the bottom three”.

“We need to start taking the points to make ourselves feel comfortable. Ask the fans of Newcastle if they want to win the Europa League and get relegated. I think they will say no”.

Despite keeping very present the importance of the Premier League survival, the midfielder does not turn down the European chance and promises effort in the tie against Anzhi and whatever may come after: “We will do our best”.
