Newcastle defender Fabricio Coloccini has insisted that he fully committed to the club, but is unsure as to where his future lies.

The Argentine was heavily linked with a January move away from the Premier League, after declaring that he was unhappy on Tyneside due to personal reasons.

A move to San Lorenzo is his home country was suggested, but they were unable to match Newcastle’s valuation.

Due to this, he has remained at St James’ Park and has featured regularly despite the saga.

Although he is still keen on an eventual move, Coloccini insisted that is fully focused on helping Newcastle for the rest of the season:

“The future? Yes. I am happy to play now. When the situation was finished in January I said to the club that we can turn the page.” He is quoted by The Mirror.

“We have moved on. “I’m only focusing on the club now.

“Next season, I don’t know. I just want to be focused on the Premier League and the Europa League this season.”

The Magpies take on Metalist Kharkiv this evening in the second leg of their Europa League last-32 tie.

Having been held to a 0-0 draw at home, they will need a positive result in Ukraine to book a spot in the next round.

Coloccini admitted that it will be a big test, but that they are capable of producing the required display:

“It will be a big test for us. The situation – the weather, the crowd, the team we’re playing – it will be a different kind of challenge, but if you want to go to the final this is the Europa League. It is tough.

“There are many tests ahead but I think we have got a squad which is strong enough to cope with what is in front of us, one that can go on to better things.”
