Newcastle starlet believes fringe players can shine
Sammy Ameobi says that Newcastle’s fringe players have been given a chance to show what they can do under Alan Pardew’s reign.
The youngster played for the Magpies in the Premier League at the weekend, and it was his shot, deflected in by Papiss Cisse, which secured the win for Newcastle over West Brom.
Ameobi believes that with Newcastle taking part in three different competitions and with few new signings, that it is a big campaign for the younger generation of players at the club.
“This is our chance to come out and show that we can do it. I fully intend to show that I can do it and am capable of it. This is a massive season for me,” he said.
“There’s going to be a lot of opportunities because we’re in the Europa League still and the FA Cup as well so the chance is there for fringe players like me.
“The chance is there for us to show what we’re made of. We’ll see, hopefully.”
Ameobi also believes that he can create chances and take opportunities for the good of the team.
“The main thing for me is that when I come on I try to affect the game. I have to be prepared when I come on to make the most of those opportunities and take the chances.
“I feel like I’ve managed to do that in the last two games. Hopefully I can continue to build on that and continue to do it in the future. I’m glad the manager is looking to me.
“I’m a very creative player and on my day I think I can bring something to the team. I always look to get down that line and put some balls into the box, and hopefully I can continue to create a few of those chances,” he added.
Ameobi came up through the Newcastle United Academy and his début for the first team came in 2011.
