Premier League campaign.

The Magpies brought in just one senior player, Vernon Anita, after pulling out of potential moves for experienced targets during the summer.

The likes of Mathieu Debuchy and Brazilian defender Douglas were expected to arrive in the North East during the last window, but the club decided to pull the plug for financial reasons.

Since then the St James’ Park-based team have struggled on field, with the demands of continental and domestic football making their performances of last term a distant memory.

Pardew admitted that missed opportunities in the summer may have proved to be costly and that their approach may have to be reviewed:

“We have been unlucky, but we are in the process of analysing whether we under-cooked it, and that’s what we should do.” He is quoted by ITV.

“It would be silly not to.”

Consecutive defeats to West Ham, Swansea, Southampton and Stoke have highlighted the poor showings of the squad, but Pardew feels that his team may be trying too hard:

“We have to win a game. We are desperate to win and sometimes desperation to win leads you down wrong avenues, so we have got to be careful.

“We just have to keep our heads and do our jobs, do the jobs we are meant to do. When you have lost two or three – and now four for us – you start doing other people’s jobs, and it’s very important just to focus on your job and do your job.”

It would help if AP did his job and got the team thinking and playing football along the ground instead of the high ball game, it would also be better for the team to revert to last years formation of 433 which worked so effectively.
