Premier League table.

The French international notched a second-half brace against the Blues to help his new team claim a valuable three points.

The win moved them six points clear of the relegation zone after a disappointing start to the season.

Despite their potentially perilous position, Sissoko is not focused on safety and is instead targeting a much higher finishing position:

“We came away with three points as a team and I hope we can go away and continue to perform like that to climb up the Premier League as high as we possibly can.” He is quoted by Sky Sports.

The 23-year-old was delighted with his individual performance, but was even more happy with the team’s display:

“I am very happy, but we can’t forget the fact that this was a team performance. The team worked together. I played well, but it was a team effort.

“I gave 100 per cent, the very best I could. I was signed to do that, to give everything to fight from the first to the 90th minute.

Sissoko arrived at St James’ Park from Toulouse for a reported £2.2 fee during January.

Despite his relatively short spell in the North East, the midfielder revealed that he is happy with his move:

“I’m settling in really well. When I am not training, I walk around the city and the supporters will come over and ask me for an autograph, and it makes me feel fantastic when that happens.”

Sissoko arrived alongside fellow countrymen Mathieu Debuchy, Yoan Gouffran, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Massadio Haidara.
