Swansea Fan Arrested Over Racism Claim
The City fan’s ‘racist gesture’ was immediately reported by Bassong to the referee Howard Webb who in-turn reported it to the fourth official during the game.
Within ten minutes of the complaint being made, the club studied the CCTV footage and a person had been arrested by Police.
Bassong was on his way to celebrate with team mate Robert Snodgrass, who had sealed the points for Norwich, when the alleged incident occurred in the 77th minute.
Bassong instantly told the referee what he had seen and the matter was dealt with promptly.
“There was an incident after Norwich’s fourth goal. Sebastien Bassong made the referee aware there was a racist gesture towards him from a Swansea City fan,” a Swansea spokesman told the Daily Mail.
“Within ten minutes of the report the stewards had got hold of the TV footage, replayed it, identified the alleged person in question and within that period he was arrested for a racially aggravated public order offence.
“The matter is with the police, but from the club’s point of view we abhor racism and we have worked hard over the years to make this a family club. We will look into it and a further statement will follow in due course.”
Norwich came away from the Liberty Stadium with a remarkable 4-3 victory in which Bassong scored to put the visitors in control of the tight affair as Norwich move up to 11th in the Premier League.
