Stoke and West Ham are considering January moves for ex-Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The 28-year-old left the Black Cats in 2012 to complete a shock move to UAE-based side Al Ain, but he is rumoured to be ready to leave the cash-rich outfit to return to Europe this month.

This has alerted Stoke and West Ham, who are believed to be keen to offer him a route back to the Premier League.

However, a stumbling block could be Gyan’s £140,000-per-week wages.

West Ham are understood to have contacted Al Ain to discuss a potential loan deal, but a switch in is dependent upon the Middle Eastern team funding the forward’s earnings.

Stoke are also closely monitoring the situation.

Gyan has already struck 16 goals this season, but is still anxious that he may be unable to make his nation’s World Cup squad unless he is plying his trade in a more illustrious league.

The goal-getter previously spent a year at Sunderland, in which he developed a reputation as a capable hit-man in the English game.
