The Venezuelan was set to sign a new contract with the La Liga club, but reports are new emerging that his reluctance to commit his future to the Basque side has caused them to withdraw their offer.

It is believed that the 27-year-old has grown frustrated by life at the club, after watching a number of big name players move on of late.

Javi Martinez quit Athletic to join Bayern Munich over the summer, whilst star striker Fernando Llorente is poised to sign with Juventus on a free transfer at the end of the current campaign.

With the club unlikely to build on their fine performances of last season, Amorebieta is now said to be looking to move on to further his career.

Liverpool, Arsenal and Everton are all keen to snap him up on a free transfer at the end of the current season, when his current deal expires.

The Reds’ need for a defender has become apparent over the course of the past few weeks, with Martin Skrtel’s drop in form leaving the club reliant on veteran Jamie Carragher.

Arsenal are also in the hunt, with Wenger considering addressing his side’s shaky backline at the end of the season.

Meanwhile Everton are thought to be interested, with the Toffees looking to bring in star names in a bid to break into the top four.

The trio may face competition from AC Milan.
