QPR and West Ham are set to go head-to-head in the race for Marseille’s Mathieu Valbuena, according to reports from The Guardian.

The pint-sized playmaker – who has been linked with both Liverpool and Arsenal in recent months – looks set for a move ahead of the new season, with L’OM understood to be ready to cut him loose.

A switch to Russian giants Dynamo Moscow was mooted, but the 29-year-old has rejected their advances in a bid to secure a move to one of Europe’s top leagues.

Both QPR and West Ham are thought to be have opened negotiations with £6.5m bids, which are likely to be accepted.

Valbuena has been a regular in the French national team over the course of the past few years and featured at the World Cup.

West Ham are considered to be frontrunners with Sam Allardyce desperate to add more attacking spark to his side, while newly promoted QPR are also in the battle and are set to have cash to spend when Loic Remy completes a highly likely switch away from Loftus Road.
