QPR chairman Tony Fernandes believes that the club’s big spending during January is completely justifiable.

The Super Hoops brought in a number of star names for large fees and wages in a bid to steer clear of relegation from the Premier League.

Former Blackburn centre-back Christopher Samba was signed for £12.5m on deadline day, and will rake in a reported £100,000-per-week. He was joined by Jermaine Jenas, Yun Suk-Young and Andros Townsend during a frantic 31st January.

The club also broke their transfer record to sign Loic Remy from Marseille, in a deal that is believed to be very lucrative for the Frenchman.

Despite the vast levels of cash thrown at the squad, Fernandes believes that action was needed and that their actions were justified:

“I don’t think there is any recklessness there.” He is quoted by Sky Sports.

“No one can guarantee anything in football, but you try to minimise the risk as much as possible and that’s where the expertise of the management comes in and they say ‘this is what we need to survive’ and you look at it and if it makes sense then the board and myself support it.

“Anyone who says we are gambling then – of course we are.”

The Loftus Road side currently sit at the foot of the league table after a disastrous start to the season under Mark Hughes.

Harry Redknapp replaced the former Manchester City boss at the end of last year, and so far he has improved the team’s on-field performances.
