The 22-year-old Germany international was set to move to White Hart Lane in the summer anyway, but once again Daniel Levy proved he was ahead of the curve when it comes to the wheeling and dealing nature of the transfer window by forcing through a deal that sees the Schalke playmaker move to the club six months ahead of schedule for just £1.5m.
The club will surely get more value than that over the next few months and given the relative struggles of both Clint Dempsey and Gylfi Sigurdsson, it could prove the difference in the club’s push for a top four place this season if he hits the ground running in a quiet window for Tottenham.
Verdict – HIT.
