The news Tim Sherwood had been appointed Tottenham head coach on an 18-month contract was a welcome distraction from Monday night’s bore draw at the Emirates.

Sherwood made no secret of his desire to succeed Andre Villas-Boas on a permanent basis, going as far to joke if it was up to him, he would be offered a 10-year-contract.

Whilst it is eight and a half years shorter than his ideal scenario, Sherwood will no doubt be delighted he has the opportunity to establish himself as a Premier League manager, and give Tottenham fans something to cheer about once more.

Chairman Daniel Levy was clearly won over by last weekend’s result at Southampton, where Sherwood was praised for an attacking approach which seemed to have gone completely missing under Andre Villas-Boas.

Whilst Sherwood has been quick to say he is not looking to spend in the January sales, reports have suggested otherwise.

Despite spending over £100million in January, Tottenham have struggled to play the free-flowing attacking football the fans demand.

Whilst Sherwood will be keen to work with what he has and bring the best out of the talent the club has already spent big money on, he is unlikely to turn away if a bargain deal comes available.

Here we take a look at six possible bargain signings Sherwood could make in January.
