Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier believes that his old club will find Adam Lallana to be the hardest to replace of their departing stars.

The Saints captain is set to make his long awaited switch to Liverpool in the coming days after travelling to Merseyside to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms.

Southampton had rebuffed numerous attempts by the Reds to land the silky playmaker, yet a £25m bid has been reluctantly accepted after the 26-year-old made it clear that he wants to join the Premier League runners-up after returning from the World Cup.

Luke Shaw – one of Europe’s most highly-rated teenagers – and Rickie Lambert – the club’s top scorer for four successive seasons – have also left the South Coast, but Le Tissier told talkSPORT that he feels Lallana will be the most difficult to replace:

“It’s not the best feeling in the world to start losing your best players, but it’s the price we’re paying for a very good season,

“We’ll miss Adam Lallana the most, I don’t have any doubts about that.

“Obviously Luke Shaw was very good for us last season. If you look at the assists and the goals Adam provided though, he was right up there with the top three or four players in the Premier League.

“Yes, we’ll miss Rickie and Luke, but the big one for most Southampton fans would be Lallana. He’ll be a big loss for us.”
