Southampton striker Rickie Lambert

Southampton striker Rickie Lambert has expressed his disappointment in not receiving a call up to the England squad for their friendly against Brazil. Lambert has scored 11 goals this season so far which is equal to Theo Walcott, making him the joint top English scorer in the Premier League.

When asked about it after the game on Saturday, Lambert said: “I was disappointed, I’m not saying I was expecting it but I was hoping, and it wasn’t to be.

“But hopefully I can show until the end of the season that I am good enough, not just that I deserve a chance but that I am good enough.”

Lambert has adapted really well to Premier League football and has 99 career goals behind him.

He turns 31 this week but he doesn’t think his age should affect whether he gets picked for the national team, adding that it’s never too late to make an England debut.

“I don’t think my age is a hindrance. I’ve just got to try to prove to them that I’m good enough,” he added.

“I’ve got quite a lot of games left to do that. If it comes, it comes and if it doesn’t, it doesn’t. I’m just going to try to help Southampton, try to score goals and push Southampton up the league table”

I agree with you on that. Lambert would do really well for England I think.
