Schneiderlin delighted with new contract
Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin is happy to have extended his contract with the South Coast club.
The Frenchman has been one of the Saints’ outstanding performers of late, adapting well to the tactics and methods of new coach Mauricio Pochettino.
He netted the opener for Southampton during their weekend defeat at the hands of Newcastle, taking his personal tally to four this term.
With some speculation that he could be the target for top clubs this summer, the St Mary’s Stadium-based outfit have swooped to tie the 24-year-old down to a four year deal, and he is delighted to have put pen to paper:
“I am a very happy man,” he is quoted by Sky Sports.
“To commit my future to Southampton is a big thing because this club has big ambitions – and I have big ambitions as well.”
Despite Southampton still being in danger of relegation, Schneiderlin has faith in the club’s long-term ambitions and goals:
“I wouldn’t have signed this contract if the club didn’t have a big project. When I spoke to the chairman and the manager, I knew they wanted to do something very good at this club and I want to be a part of that.”
Schneiderlin has enjoyed a successful period with the Saints, helping the club in their back-to-back promotion winning campaigns to reach the top tier of English football.
His performances have not gone unnoticed in his homeland either, with France electing to cap him at almost every youth level.
