England squad following his heroics against Swansea yesterday.

The midfielder netted the opening goal to help the Saints to a 2-0 home win, which moved the South Coast club into the top four.

Lallana has been in fine form for some time and has been a key man for the Hampshire outfit throughout their rise from League One to the Premier League.

Pochettino was thrilled with his captain’s display, and believes that if he maintains his level of performance England manager Roy Hodgson will find it difficult to overlook him.

“I’m very happy for Adam,” he told The Mirror.

“He’s a great bloke and a great professional and he’s very passionate about this club. I’m very happy that he scored and for everything he represents – all the good values – at this club.

“He deserves all the praise for his improvement – his performance has been amazing over the last few games.

“If he keeps performing as he did today he’ll be actually very close to getting that call up to the national side.”

The 25-year-old was recently called up to represent the Three Lions in World Cup qualification action, but did not feature.

Although Lallana is not in the squad for the imminent clashes with Montenegro and Poland, his Southampton team-mate Rickie Lambert could play some part in the fixtures.

Is Adam Lallana good enough for England?

He is not the sort of player that will play in midfield for England. He has a good touch, can pass, and can beat players. In other words he is technically too good. If he wants to play for England he will need to shoot from distance and get regular yellow cards, to prove that he “puts himself about a bit”. He will also have to get into the papers more.

A nightclub brawl is popular choice, but an affaire or training ground bust up may suffice once an initial interest has been aroused by an Alcohol or Gambling problem.
