Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has insisted the Spanish club have no desire to sell Diego Costa this summer, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Brazilian-born striker has been attracting interest from the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal, after firing 27 goals in 36 matches for Diego Simeone’s side this season.

His form has taken Atletico to within touching distance of Barcelona at the top of La Liga, as well as the brink of the Champions League quarter finals.

And the club’s president insists they are under no pressure to sell their prized asset, who is understood to be on the brink of making Vincente Del Bosque’s Spanish squad.

“I do not think Diego Costa is going to leave Atletico at the end of the coming year,” Cerezo said.

“Undoubtedly, we do not want to sell him or use him as a bargaining chip for another player.

“You can appreciate this because we never sell but other teams come for our players.

“Diego wants to play for the Spanish national team and it has been an important decision [for him].

“He likes Spain, he lives here and he considers it a better option to be part of the current world champions, so if he does play he will do great.

“I trust the Spanish team will gain a lot with his inclusion.”

However, Costa is understood to have a £32million buy-out-clause in his current contract, which would allow other clubs to negotiate with the forward, should the figure be met.
