Stoke City striker Juan Agudelo has joined FC Utrecht on loan for the remainder of the season, reports Sky Sports.

The American has been unable to make an appearance for the Potters after he wasn’t granted a work permit.

Utrecht’s chief scout Edwin de Kruijff has taken advantage of this, by signing him to the Eredivisie¬†club for the rest of this season’s campaign:¬†”A young player like Agudelo must play and he can’t do that at Stoke at the moment so it’s a good opportunity for him and us.”

Agudelo is the youngest scorer for the United States, bagging a goal on his debut against South Africa in 2010 when just 17-years-old. And the American was set to leave New England for the Britannia Stadium after signing a pre-contract with the English club, only to be denied a work permit back in November.

The 21-year-old will now not play under Mark Hughes, but instead for Jan Wouters at Utrecht, who are currently 9th in the Dutch top flight.

With Kenwyne Jones, Peter Crouch and Jonathan Walters leading the line, Stoke have scored 22 goals from their 22 Premier League games, earning them 22 points in the table. But only 6 points above bottom place Cardiff, Hughes had thought the free signing of Agudelo would lift them from safety. The former QPR and Manchester City boss must now rethink his plans.
