Boos never put me off says Sunderland star
Sunderland striker Danny Graham has revealed that he was not put off of joining the club, even after being booed by supporters.
The 27-year-old left Swansea to join the Black Cats last month, despite have received a hostile reception from their fans two days prior to the move.
Graham is a lifelong Newcastle fan, a fact which irked a number of the club’s loyal supporters.
Despite this, he was greeted positively on his debut against Reading at Madejski Stadium, and revealed that he was never fazed by the boos he received prior to his £5m arrival:
“The reception was great at Reading,” he is quoted by the Sunderland Echo.
“Obviously the one on Tuesday night was expected for myself. That’s part and parcel of football, I just got on with it. But it never once put me off in terms of wanting to move here.
“The contrast with the reception I got at the Madejski Stadium was brilliant. I had signed and everything was done, and to get that reception was really pleasing.”
Graham, who is set to make his home debut this weekend against Arsenal, went on to suggest that he is no longer focused on winning over fans who still harbour some ill feeling, and that he is determined to help the club enjoy a solid end to the season.
“I’m just looking forward to having a successful end of the season.”
