Martin O’Neill dismisses Resignation rumours
Speculation surrounding his future was rife in the aftermath of the Black Cats’ third loss in four games, and it was suggested that the manager was willing to step down.
O’Neill was disappointed to hear that his position was the subject of debate and insisted that the rumours were untrue:
“I don’t think there is much more to say, other than the fact that anybody can get on to Twitter and say whatever they want,” he told SkySports.
“The very fact that no-one can verify the story makes it a bit disappointing. It was absolute nonsense.
“It’s the name of the game. That’s what’s happening nowadays. It happened once before way back a couple of years ago. These things, there are nothing in them.”
Sunderland currently occupy 16th in the Premier League following a stuttering start to the season.
The Stadium of Light-based outfit have notched just 12 points, winning only one game so far this month.
Some of the club’s summer signings have failed to impress, with Adam Johnson struggling to find the form he displayed prior to his move to Manchester City.
Steven Fletcher looked promising initially, but has goal scoring touch appears to have gone missing after netting just once since the start of October.
