Swansea.

Some Black Cats fans booed the 27-year-old when he featured against them earlier this week, due to being a life-long fan of bitter rivals Newcastle.

But, the Gateshead-born forward has penned a three-and-a-half year deal at the Stadium of Light, with Martin O’Neill confident that he can form a lethal partnership with Steven Fletcher.

He will go straight into the first-team squad ahead Sunderland’s weekend clash with Reading and is prepared to work hard to win over the crowd:

“I totally understand that some fans might need convincing about my commitment to Sunderland because of my roots, but I’ve always given 100 per cent no matter what team I play for and no matter who I play against.” He is quoted by The Mirror.

“It’s up to me to show people I deserve to wear the Sunderland shirt and I’m excited about playing for a club as big as this.”

Graham was linked with a number of clubs during January, with Norwich believed to be highly interested.

But, the ex-Watford man said that once he heard that Sunderland were interested his decision was made:

“As soon as I heard about the interest from ¬Sunderland I didn’t even have to consider any of the other options that were on the table.

“I was born and brought up in the North East, so I know first-hand the intense passion that people have for their football in this part of the world – it’s special and there’s nowhere else like it.”

Graham lost his place in Swansea first-team under new manager Michael Laudrup, with Michu making a stunning start to his career with the club.
