Sunderland manager Gus Poyet wants one last big push from his side to get a result against West Brom and effectively avoid relegation going into the final game of the season.

Three victories on the spin have lifted the Black Cats from the doldrums of the drop zone to 17th position, with a two-point buffer over Norwich with two fixtures remaining.

Poyet’s side take on the Baggies this evening knowing that a draw would suit both teams, with the midlanders due to be mathematically safe and Sunderland possessing a vastly superior goal difference which should see the Canaries unable to leapfrog them.

Should the Wearsiders’ game finish in a draw, Norwich will have to make up 13 goals on their opponents on the final day of the season, which would appear to be a near impossible task with Arsenal awaiting them at Carrow Road on Sunday.

Despite things looking good for his side, Poyet has warned them to stay focused and get the job done:

“The idea is to be concentrated on us in the way we have been in the last few games, to not change anything, we want to win the game because I don’t know how to play for a draw or to get a point.” He is quoted by Sky Sports.

“A point would be enough, not mathematically, but realistically because if we lose the last game 7-0 and Norwich beat Arsenal I would think something strange is going on in those two games.

“Anything can happen on the day so we need to do the job, start aggressively, connect with the fans, put pressure on West Brom.”
