Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole admits that his team will not be caught out by the league’s surprise package West Brom, when they clash at the weekend.

The Baggies travel to the Stadium of Light on the back of a 2-1 victory over Chelsea and find themselves occupying the final Champions League spot.

With almost a third of the season completed West Brom’s position may have surprised everyone, which means that no top flight side can afford to take them lightly.

Sunderland captain Cattermole told the Chronicle,

“We won’t get caught on the hop because we know they’re a good side and we’ll need to be at our best if we want to get something out of the game.”

Sunderland have made a disappointing start to their own season; however Cattermole believes that the squad’s confidence is high:

“The spirit in the dressing room is second to none.

“We’ve got some great characters in there now and there’s a feeling of togetherness growing all the time.

“That’s what you need if you’re going to be successful.

“And we haven’t just got team spirit we’ve got genuinely top-notch players too.”

The Black Cats go into the clash after an impressive 3-1 victory against Fulham at Craven Cottage last time out.
