Swansea manager Garry Monk has poured cold water on talk that Michu could leave the club this summer with Arsenal and Liverpool understood to be keen.

The Spanish attacker missed the most part of last season through injury, but established himself as one of the Premier League’s most feared front-men during 2012/13 when he netted 18 goals in his debut campaign.

Arsenal and Liverpool were keeping tabs on him last year, and are thought to have maintained an interest despite his fitness concerns.

With the Swans having finished in a lowly league position recently, there have been whispers that big name players may look to move on in the coming months, with some reports claiming that the 28-year-old is available for the right price

But Monk – who was only confirmed as the South Wales outfit’s permanent manager a few weeks ago – says that Michu will not be heading off:

“He has definitely not been put up for sale by anyone at this club, me, the chairman or anyone,” he is quoted by The Express.

“Our only discussion about Michu is getting him back to fitness and making sure he’s on the pitch for Swansea and scoring goals.

“He’s a goalscorer, our top scorer two seasons ago, so that’s not something you dismiss very lightly. We want him here at the club.”
