Swansea City have confirmed the capture of Napoli defender Federico Fernandez in a deal believed to be in the region of £8million.

The Argentina international was part of the side that finished this summer’s World Cup as runner’s up.

And the 25-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a four year deal at the Liberty Stadium following a successful medical on Monday.

The centre-back gives Swans boss Garry Monk further options in defence and is expected to go straight into the side alongside Ashley Williams for their home fixture against Burnley on Saturday, subject to international clearance.

Fernandez helped Napoli to the Coppa Italia last season, as well featuring regularly in their Champions League and Europa League campaigns.

The experienced defender will wear the number 33 shirt at the Liberty Stadium.
