Swansea could move for Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling if the Reds make new signings in the coming weeks, according to reports from The Mirror.

Anfield chief Brendan Rodgers is thought to be closing in on a deal for Basel wide-man Mohamed Salah, which would plunge the teenage ace’s first-team prospects into doubt on Merseyside.

The 19-year-old has been in excellent form for Liverpool of late, playing a key role in their December fixtures.

Although Sterling has been performing well, Rodgers is still keen for him to leave the club on loan in a bid to gain more experience.

A summer move for this season was mooted, but the Northern Irishman was unable to land adequate cover on the flanks, leading to the former QPR trainee staying put.

But with Salah reportedly on the verge of a £7m move to Liverpool, Rodgers is confident that his side can cope without their youngster.

Swansea are interested, and seen as the perfect side to nurture the England international’s potential.

Sterling may benefit from regular playing time at the Liberty Stadium, and could be a valuable asset for Michael Laudrup as he will be eligible to feature in their Europa League campaign.
