Swansea striker hoping for Newcastle start
The 27-year-old has been left out of Michael Laudrup’s starting line-up for the last five games, with Spaniard Michu being preferred up front for the Swans.
But Graham has been training hard since being dropped by Laudrup and is hoping he has done enough to have won back his place in the starting XI in time for their trip to St. James’ Park this weekend.
He told Swansea’s official website: “Over the last few games my performances have not been as good and rightfully so I was dropped.
“As a footballer you are going to be dropped in your career. It is how you deal with it and I feel I have trained well and shown the right attitude.
“So hopefully I will get a chance to play from the start against Newcastle on Saturday.”
And Graham, who has been a Newcastle fan all this life, admits it will be weird being back on Tynside but only has his eyes on a Swansea win.
“I was at the Barcelona game for Faustino Asprilla’s hat-trick in the Champions League [in 1997] and I also saw Alan Shearer’s first goal for Newcastle. He was my hero,” he added.
“But, although I was a Newcastle fan, I play for Swansea City and we will be looking to get one over on them.
“It will be strange going back. All my family will be at the game in the Newcastle end. But we have a job to do.”
