Manchester City will begin their Premier League title defence with an opening day trip to St. James’ Park to take on Alan Pardew’s Newcastle United.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men have been handed tough opening few weeks, with huge fixtures against title rivals Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea coming in the opening five weeks of the new campaign.

Brendan Rodgers will be hoping to take his Liverpool side one step further next term by lifting that elusive Premier League trophy, and he’ll see his side get under way with a tricky home game with Southampton.

Louis van Gaal will begin his Manchester United reign at home to Swansea City, before a fairly straight forward run of games that will see them face Sunderland, Burnley, QPR and Leicester City in the opening weeks.

Arsenal begin their campaign with a London derby with Crystal Palace at the Emirates, ahead of a tough trip to Roberto Martinez’s Everton. Arsenal will then have a short wait until the end of September before they welcome bitter north London rivals Tottenham to the Emirates.

Jose Mourinho will see his new-look Chelsea side travel  to newly promoted Burnley before hosting new boys Leicester City at Stamford Bridge the following weekend. The Blues’ first big test of the campaign will come towards the end of September when they travel to defending Champions Manchester City.

But arguably the stand out fixture of the opening weekend of the new season will be Tottenham’s trip to London rivals West Ham.

Spurs were beaten three times by the Hammers last term and will want to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat to Sam Allardyce’s men. Mauricio Pochettino’s first game in charge at White Hart Lane will be another London derby, this time with QPR, managed by former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp.
