The Premier League will always be on the lookout for the next big name to take the headlines. It doesn’t matter if it’s a £38million Sergio Aguero with ice flowing through his veins to grab a late title-winner, or the bargain of a lifetime in Michu. The Premier League has been able to draw in these contrasting figures and helped to further their reputation, no matter where they end up in the league table.

With the January transfer window in full swing, the door opens once again for English clubs to bring in the next wave, the next brilliant signing that steals the hearts of a nation and forces so many to chant in unison that this is the best league in the world.

Let’s not dismiss the other leagues around Europe and the world; were it not for them, these names wouldn’t have developed and emerged on the radar of a league and its audience who demand so much. But there’s always a space open, an opportunity waiting to be taken and an import with plenty of mystique and even more promise to steal the show.
