Name: Alan Dzagoev

Country: Russia

Club: CSKA Moscow

Age: 24

International Caps: 33

Position: Attacking Midfielder

One of Euro 2012’s star performers, it is perhaps a surprise that Dzagoev is still at CSKA Moscow. The 24 year old was heavily linked with a number of sides last summer, including Chelsea and Tottenham, and is expected to play an important role in Russia’s attempts to qualify from Group H, beginning against South Korea tonight.

Having been dubbed the new “David Beckham”, expectations of Dzagoev have been high from a very early age. Signing for CSKA at the age of 16, the Russian established himself as one of club’s key performers during his teenage years. By the age of 18, he had been called up to the national side by Guus Hiddink.

Dzagoev has consistently racked up goals and assists in the Russian Premier League and his performances in Euro 2012 brought him to the attention of many of Europe’s leading sides. A dead-ball specialist, the 24 year old boasts good pace and an eye for goal and the killer pass. Capable of fulfilling either a central midfield role or a role out wide, Dzagoev will again be looking to impress at another major international tournament.

Since 2012 however, the CSKA star has seen his career somewhat stall. Interest from the Premier League seems to have somewhat dried up and the midfielder’s temperament has been brought into question, having been sent off numerous times for his club. Dzagoev has also struggled at times to win the favour of Russia manager Fabio Capello and was dropped for the encounter with Israel.

For the sake of his own development, the 24 year old is in desperate need of a move to kickstart his career. Unfortunately for him though, both Chelsea and Tottenham are rather well stocked in the attacking midfield department. Nonetheless, Dzagoev will be looking to impress other potential suitors this summer, from the Premier League and Western Europe, with his performances for his country.
